As long as it lasts Rotterdam
Temporary interventions
2020/2023
This series began in 2020, with Luuk constructing sculptures from materials scavenged from construction containers on the street. As he assembled these temporary structures, he grappled with questions of utility and waste: When does a material become useful for building? When does it become waste?
The sculptures, often ephemeral, stood only briefly before succumbing to the elements or human interference. Whether toppled by the wind or dismantled by a passerby, the materials would inevitably return to their original state of discard.
In a recent evolution of the project, Luuk revisited the sites where these sculptures once stood, transforming the works into billboards. These new pieces, mounted on wood sourced from the surrounding environment, bring the once-transient sculptures back to their origins, now reimagined and immortalized in a different form.
